Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS)
The Northeastern University chapter of Students for the Exploration and Development of Space, or SEDS, is an interdisciplinary student group dedicated to space exploration and space exploration technologies. NU SEDS is both a professional and social environment for its 200+ members, who can usually be found at any hour in the club’s primary workspace collaborating on technical projects. NU SEDS’ main function is supporting and facilitating a number of research, social, outreach, and competition-oriented teams. We are currently supporting 4 technical projects: NURover, NU SUITS, NU Lunabotics, and the NEST project, three of which are primarily robotics focused. We also started NU Astronomy this year, which organizes space-themed events, general meetings, and amateur astronomy outings both on and off campus. We are proud of the amazing community we have built here in SEDS. Our organization has had a tremendous amount of success over the past few years in national and international competitions, including winning the 2022 NASA BIG Idea Challenge and the 2024 Winter Canadian Rover Challenge. This year, SEDS teams have successfully qualified for the finals of 4 different major competitions: the NASA SUITS Challenge, ISU Lunabotics Challenge, the University Rover Challenge, and the Canadian International Rover Challenge. SEDS also conducts STEM outreach in the Boston community multiple times a month by partnering with other Northeastern organizations, local schools, and institutions like the Museum of Science.
